Malaysian millennials and Gen Z struggling financially, Deloitte survey reveals

Deloitte’s Global 2023 Gen Z and Millennial Survey disclosed worrying trends amongst Malaysian millennials and Gen Zs.

Half of the millennials and 45% of Gen Zs stated cost of living as their prime concern.

A significant proportion, 70% of millennials and 65% of Gen Zs, agreed to living paycheck to paycheck, surpassing global figures of 51% and 52%, respectively.

Despite craving a better work-life balance, a considerable number have taken on additional work to survive financially.

Malaysian youths have also expressed a desire for increased work flexibility and career advancement opportunities, with an inclination towards a condensed four-day work week.

The report further revealed that 84% would contemplate seeking a new job if required to work on-site full time.

This survey collected responses from 14,483 Gen Zs and 8,373 millennials across 44 countries, including 303 respondents from Malaysia.
