Offshore recruitment is an effective strategy in sourcing good talent, the Hiring and Managing Talent Beyond Geographical Boundaries report found.
Conducted by HR solution firm PERSOLKELLY, the report surveyed over 1,300 decision-makers responsible for hiring within their organisation.
Forty-five percent of respondents in Singapore said they’re either executing or exploring offshore recruitment strategies, with 58% saying that such a strategy is effective in sourcing talent and helping achieve their business objectives and budgets.
The survey also found that the top three sought-after skills for Singapore employers are IT (52%), customer service (35%) and research and development (35%).
In terms of locations, Singapore employers’ preferred sources for offshore talent are Malaysia (69%), India (35%), and China (22%).
Sixty-six percent of Singaporean respondents also said that the top reason for adopting offshore recruitment strategies is the ability to access a bigger pool of experienced and skilled talents when local talents are limited.
Meanwhile, 70% of the companies surveyed prefer working with regional recruitment agencies, which also have a local presence within the target market.
“Globalisation and technology have made it possible for employers to hire and manage talent beyond geographical boundaries,” Foo See Yang, Managing Director & Country Head of PERSOLKELLY Singapore said.
“As the markets become more competitive, companies need to differentiate themselves to create more value for their customers to either preserve or introduce new competitive advantages.
“This can only be done through hiring the right talent with the right skill set to achieve the business objective,” Foo added.
