Staff events and professional gatherings were heavily affected by the pandemic. Months after the declared end of the Covid-19 crisis, what are organisations in Southeast Asia doing and what should they expect?
The popularity of virtual events has certainly remained, a lasting effect of the innovations and adaptations that sprouted over the past few years.
Chief of Staff Asia took a look at industry updates, micro trends, and key lessons for HR to keep in mind, especially when it comes to end-of-year events. Here’s some of what we found in our research:
- Continuous expectation of flexibility: Even as hotel occupancy levels in Southeast Asia have risen to 78%, event participants and organisers alike anticipate remote and hybrid event options. 68% of surveyed meeting planners also agreed that their events should have at least one virtual component.
- Building rapport and creating memorable events: Due to the popularity of remote work, employees meeting at end-of-year events require greater time to establish connection before they can collaborate professionally. Afterwards, HR should maximise and digitalise event contents to sustain the impact of these gatherings throughout the year.
- MICE investors eyeing Southeast Asia: Asian Federation of Exhibition and Convention Associations Honorary President Edward Liu reported that many foreign organisers are eyeing the regional market for MICE, post-pandemic, and Indonesia in particular: the country has the largest labour force at more than 136 million, and 70% of the population will be working adults by 2030.
