Formal MICE education can help HR leaders, event organisers stay agile

Given the rapidly changing business landscape and colourful demography of Southeast Asia, it is necessary for HR to stay agile if teams want to maximise staff events for organisational growth. A key strategy for this is to acquire formal MICE education.

This was one of several insights found in the latest Chief of Staff Asia research paper. Expanding Domains in Modern MICE and Staff Events, available now, is available for subscriber download here.

According to George Pudadera, former President of the PhilYoung MICE Association, “MICE education emerges as a valuable tool in achieving this agility. Formal education and training in event organisation provide HR teams with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate these dynamic shifts effectively.

“This instils them with the ability to plan, manage, and execute events in a way that resonates with the preferences and expectations of attendees,” he says. He further points to MICE education as a driving force behind the level of creativity required to keep participants engaged.

He says a structured approach to MICE education would also endow HR teams with greater adaptability, problem-solving skills, and even the confidence to handle high-pressure situations. Other core concepts covered are those of ethics, communication, and cultural sensitivity. These are vital for interacting with stakeholders, vendors, and attendees alike.

Examples of MICE education suppliers include the Asia Pacific Institute for Events Management, which offers courses on Creative Event Design, Planning, Management, and Certified Event Education. In the Philippine MICE Academy, offerings include Stakeholder, Staff and Volunteer Management, and Risk Management, Financial Management, and Site Management.

When applied to the context of Southeast Asia and technological trends, such education can bridge gaps in culture, language, or even political systems as professionals learn to manoeuvre around not only issues confined to events, but also issues unique and relevant to the geographical region.
