HR Tech Update: The platforms making online interviewing a new standard

allison-moore-2 Video and phone call interviews are becoming the norm, and it is easy to see why. Being less time-consuming and intensive as in-person interviews, video meetings provide a convenient alternative for recruiters and candidates alike. Just over 80% of recruiters claimed they were comfortable with video interviews in a 2020 Recright study.

The majority of workers are also familiar with video interviews, enjoying the convenience of being able to interact with a hiring manager or recruiter from the comfort of their own home – and with the demand for remote positions only increasing, this is a valuable aspect that many candidates will consider during a job search.

Of course, video interviews provide multiple advantages for human resources as well. For example, HR can ask to record the meeting in order to re-watch and discuss it at a later time, ensuring all needed information is clear and can be shared with anyone necessary to the conversation.

Video interviews are also time- and cost-saving, allowing HR to meet with and interview more candidates in a shorter time frame. With information about the candidate readily available, it also streamlines the recruitment process.

These interviews can be conducted either in real time, or asynchronously. It is becoming increasingly common to request candidates submit a short video answering three to five questions along with their CV, or before a live video interview is requested.

This serves multiple purposes. Firstly, HR can glean a better understanding of the candidate’s personality and demeanour earlier on in the recruitment process. Secondly, by offering candidates the option to also submit an asynchronous video interview, HR can widen their hiring pool for candidates who may have more trouble attending live interviews, perhaps due to time differences or conflicting schedules. Thirdly, it offers HR more flexibility in reviewing candidates, as recruiters are able to look over the submitted videos in their own time.

Some video interview software goes a step further in assisting recruiters, such as Interviewer.AI, which uses advanced artificial intelligence to pre-screen and shortlist candidates. Another example is FloCareer, which provides its own panel of expert interviewers to conduct unbiased interviews with your candidates through a structured framework.

With the right video interview technology that goes beyond basic video conferencing capabilities, HR can enhance the recruitment and hiring processes, and ensure it can select from a diverse and skilled range of candidates, no matter the position or its requirements.
