APAC sees increased demand for cybersecurity talent

A report by non-profit cybersecurity firm The International Information System Security Certification Consortium or (ISC)² found a 2.2 million workforce gap for cybersecurity talents in the APAC region.
The (ISC)² Cybersecurity Workforce Study was conducted to evaluate the size of the current cybersecurity workforce and existing talents.

The report found that 60% of APAC respondents said their organisations are experiencing a shortage of cybersecurity staff. More than half of the respondents also feel that the shortage put their organisations at a “moderate” or “extreme” risk of cyberattack.

Seventy-one percent of APAC respondents expect growth in their cybersecurity department within the next 12 months. This is close to the global average of 72%, the highest predicted growth rate in the last two years.

“Geopolitical tensions and macroeconomic instability, alongside high-profile data breaches and growing physical security challenges, have resulted in a greater focus on cybersecurity and the need for more professionals within the field,” Clar Rosso, CEO of (ISC)² said.

Rosso said that data shows that it’s vital for organisations to retain and attract strong talents.

“Professionals are saying loud and clear that corporate culture, experience, training and education investment, and mentorship are paramount to keeping teams motivated, engaged and effective,” she added.
