ASEAN leaders pledge to make Southeast Asia an economic growth epicentre

At the 42nd ASEAN Summit in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia, Southeast Asian leaders committed to making the region an economic growth centre, both regionally and globally.

The summit, held from 9 to 11 May, saw leaders expressing their determination to achieve this through investment in human resources development and strengthening of regional health security architecture.

Indonesia’s Priority Economic Deliverables (PEDs) and flagship initiatives, designed to address post-pandemic recovery and rebuilding, were welcomed by the leaders.

The initiatives, focusing on recovery and rebuilding, digital economy, and sustainability, intend to bolster ASEAN’s status as a growth epicentre through inclusive digital economy integration and sustainable economic development.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening ASEAN economic integration, enhancing intra-ASEAN trade and investment, and strengthening supply chain connectivity.

They aim to implement the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Blueprint 2025 effectively to build a resilient, sustainable, and inclusive region.
