In a recent statement, Mr. Chee Hong Tat, the Senior Minister of State for Transport, revealed this forecast, highlighting 4300 job opportunities available for Singaporeans and the expansion plans of Changi Airport and the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS).
Changi Airport, renowned as one of the world’s best airports, aims to further enhance its facilities and services to cater to the growing demands of travelers. This includes increasing the capacity of its terminals, investing in cutting-edge technology, and implementing various infrastructure projects to boost operational efficiency. As a result, the airport will require a diverse and skilled workforce to support these ambitious plans.
CAAS is also making strategic move by actively recruiting professionals with expertise in aviation engineering, air navigation, regulatory affairs, and related fields. “This time last year, the sector was striving to rebuild its ranks, after losing about a third of its pre-COVID workforce,” Mr Chee said. “Today, the air transport sector has restored its workforce to close to 95 percent of pre-COVID numbers.”
Getting Singaporeans on board
To interest Singaporeans to join the aviation industry, Mr. Chee and CAAS will sign three Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with the National Youth Council, the Singapore Scout Association, and the Singapore University of Technology and Design.
Through this, they aim to increase awareness and foster interest in joining the aviation sector while proactively engaging with institutes of higher learning to revamp the curriculum in schools. This strategic move ensures that young individuals stay updated on the latest developments, disruptions, and promising prospects within the aviation field.
Mr. Chee emphasised the significance of this Industry Transformation Map (ITM) as the aviation sector emerges from the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. The ITM is expected to position Singapore’s aviation industry to create ample employment opportunities for Singaporeans, bolster the nation’s economic growth, and propel Changi air hub to even greater heights.
