When EY Thailand noticed how high stress levels among the workforce were affecting employee engagement and retention, the company sought to enhance the workplace environment with greater flexibility and a focus on wellbeing.
“Better Me” is the company’s way of harnessing EY Thailand employees’ sense of community for them to prioritise their mental and physical health together, thus ensuring a more balanced workplace environment and motivating them to aim for service excellence.
Various activities and policy redesign such as “Team Spirit” days, Appreciation Day, and “thank you” parties allow the company to nurture and strengthen authentic relationships among employees. Compensation and benefits in terms of wellbeing have also been adjusted to better suit their needs, especially coming from the pandemic.
During that time, stress levels had skyrocketed, leading to quiet quitting which dragged down performance. Employees were also socially burned out, hence the “Better Me” focus on reinforcing the organisational community and helping them feel more connected with their teammates.
Post-pandemic, EY Thailand continued to embrace hybrid work to maintain flexibility and business productivity. Meanwhile, there is continuing prioritisation of on-site events and activities designed to encourage employees to engage in in-person interaction and socialisation and help them acclimatise to workplace connection in the office.
In addition, “Better Me” places emphasis on upskilling and reskilling. This allows employees to stay relevant while also developing that sense of belonging as the company invests in their skills growth and professional capabilities.
These initiatives allow EY Thailand to foster a seamless culture of flexibility and solidarity among team members. As a result, the company has witnessed turnover reduction and increased employee engagement and wellbeing experience.
“While we still have a long way to go, we believe that we are on the right track, and our people have placed their trust in us,” says HR Director Jinjutha Chavengsub. “We believe that what matters most is how we embrace them and effectively lead our people to success in both their professional and personal lives.”
