Describing company culture at ZALORA, Chief People Officer and General Counsel Louise Pender shares how the team refer to themselves as “#Limitless. That says a lot about who we are and the way that we approach the challenges that are coming up in the market.”
Acknowledging the tough macroeconomic conditions affecting retailers and e-commerce platforms nowadays, Pender shares that the company’s leadership has been focused on enabling organisational growth.
This includes facilitating market entry into new markets and relaunches, an advertising platform, and even sustainability. She adds, “The other key part for us in terms of staying ahead is really about engagement and connection.
“We know that engagement is so integrally connected with performance of the company, so we’re putting a lot of focus in terms of training our leaders on how to engage with their employees—tooling them up to create that connection deliberately.”
The HR team at ZALORA applies constant checking in with employees at various stages of their employee life cycle, helping them to plan their careers and develop new leaders across all levels.
Pender says that this clear growth and professional development, coupled with the flexibility and hybrid approach they offer, helps attract the best talent. She adds that employee care, mental health, and wellbeing strategies also play a huge role in engagement and retention.
Engaged employees are 44% more productive than employees who may be in the middle ground or neutrally satisfied with their workplace, she points out.
