HR Tech Update: As hybrid working booms, software can keep remote employees trained and motivated

The business landscape is changing, and hybrid work models are becoming increasingly popular. For organisations in Southeast Asia, facilitating hybrid work for top talent is an especially pressing topic. Post-pandemic, the priorities of employees in the region have massively shifted. Much of the workforce is now turning its focus towards mental wellbeing, having found that working from home improves staff satisfaction while maintaining or even increasing productivity. The Business Times surveyed employees in the Asia-Pacific region in late 2020, and found 88% wanted the freedom to choose between working from home or in the office.

Having the structural capabilities to offer your employees remote work on occasion (or even full-time) is enticing to many staff members, but it also offers advantages for the company. Employees may enjoy working from the comfort of their own home, saving time and money on daily transportation, and this can improve motivation during work hours. Employers can benefit from increased productivity from their workforce, choose talent from a larger pool, and enjoy improved retention, and savings on office equipment.

Singapore is leading the charge, adapting to the preferences of employees swiftly. In a recent RGF International Recruitment survey, more than 60% of Singaporean employees reported they intended to continue flexible working, while almost half of employers in the Asia-Pacific region will allow full-time remote working.

The biggest challenge for Southeast Asian organisations is finding the right balance in instituting hybrid working while successfully running a profitable and collaborative business. Having the right HR technology is incredibly important to facilitating a healthy hybrid work environment. The right software can aid in a company’s transition from traditional working in the office to maintaining a strong hybrid environment. Hybrid working shouldn’t hinder employee development or engagement, but should do the opposite. There are a number of HR technologies that can assist, such as MaivenPoint, a learning management system that aids collaborative learning and training. When teams are split between multiple countries, time zones, and even languages, virtual teamwork must be made as simple and easy to follow as possible.

Keeping track of employee productivity and improving workflow is also made simpler with desktop applications such as TalentSpotify, which can also enhance motivation and make rewarding achievements that much easier. HR technologies – including employee relations platforms, online interview tools, and onboarding solutions – provide seamless management for a wide network of employees both in the office and at a distance. As the market continues to develop and the need for flexibility grows, finding the right technical solutions for your organisation’s unique work environment will become much more important.
