HR Tech Update: How personalisation transforms employee experience

As 2023 unfolds, HR professionals can expect a surge in personalised employee experience opportunities, driven by advancements in HR technology.

The Top Employers Institute World of Work Trends Report 2023 has identified a shift towards a more “person-centric” approach in employee development, leadership, and workplace culture.

The study, which surveyed over 2,000 global participants, highlights the increasing importance of HR technology in catering to individual employee needs.

The report claims that the pandemic has led employees to reflect on what truly matters to them, with work-life balance, mental health, and flexibility all increasing in importance.

With digital employee experience becoming more accessible, technology is now being harnessed to serve and enhance each individual’s work life.

A staggering 78% of employers have a vision for digital HR’s role in the overall employee experience, while a similar percentage of respondents have already personalised their HR technology platform.

Employee journey mapping is now being utilised by 44% of employers, aiming to continuously improve their staff’s experiences.

According to the study, only organisations that prioritise a personalised experience will be able to foster high-performance cultures, align purpose, vision, and values, and develop new leadership capabilities.

Furthermore, the report reveals that businesses are implementing a range of measures to develop their workforce.

These include interactive career portals, mentoring or coaching resources, and career counselling.

Personalised strategies such as tailored learning portals, specific support for career development questions, workshops, training, microlearning content, and mentoring or coaching are on the rise.

In addition to personalisation, the report sheds light on growing sustainability efforts in organisations.

Companies are increasingly incorporating social and environmental performance indicators into their internal management reporting.

This is driven by mounting pressure from both external forces and the workforce itself.

Strategies include employee volunteer programs, dashboards displaying social and environmental performance, executive compensation tied to sustainability, and employee incentives supporting environmental goals.

Interestingly, organisations from the Asia Pacific region are leading the way in sustainability initiatives.

They show higher percentages in using executive compensation linked to sustainability and dashboards measuring social and environmental performance compared to the rest of the world.

However, despite their progress, the region still lags behind the global average of 75% in incorporating Environmental, Social, and Governance measures into executive compensation programs.

As the world of HR tech continues to evolve, professionals in the field must adapt and embrace the “person-centric” approach to keep up with changing landscapes and ensure a positive, impactful employee experience.
