The government has continued to invest in improving human resources and developing vocational education to achieve inclusive, equitable development across Indonesia.
Effort is being made to take advantage of the country’s demographics, where 70% of the population is in the productive age group, with a workforce of about 144 million people.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said that well-prepared human resources can accelerate national economic development.
“If prepared properly, Indonesia’s workforce has great potential to accelerate the national economic development so that the workforce is expected to prosper before they get old,” Hartarto said.
To be successful, vocational education and training programs need a strong partnership with the industry. They can connect students to the labour market through connections, he said.
The minister said that he expects vocational training to play an important role in developing human resources in the future. The effort is in line with Indonesia’s policy outlined in Presidential Regulation 68 of 2022 concerning revitalising vocational education and vocational training.
