In his May Day Message 2023, Minister for Manpower Dr Tan See Leng expressed gratitude for the progress made in the post-COVID-19 recovery and encouraged Singaporeans to face the post-pandemic world with confidence.
Dr Tan discussed the goals of the Empower Pillar in the Forward Singapore Exercise, emphasizing the importance of supporting Singaporean workers throughout their careers.
He highlighted various initiatives, such as the NTUC Company Training Committees grant, Tripartite Committee on Workplace Fairness, Progressive Wage Model, and strengthening protections for platform workers.
Additionally, Dr Tan stressed the importance of professionalising skilled trades and providing better salaries and career progression for workers in these jobs.
He also acknowledged the vital role of tripartism in Singapore’s success and urged for continued close cooperation between unions, employers, and the government.
