The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) in Singapore has committed to “redouble its efforts” in fostering fair, inclusive, and safe workplaces. It says this will help to address labour market uncertainties amid the Covid-19 pandemic recovery.
MOM will require employers to advertise job openings on its MyCareersFuture online portal, and fairly consider all local applicants before hiring internationally and applying for a working visa.
The forthcoming workplace fairness legislation will further strengthen protection against discrimination, it says.
By 2024, the ministry plans to introduce Tripartite Guidelines on Flexible Work Arrangements, aiming for a win-win adoption for employers and employees.
Singapore is striving to reduce workplace fatal injury rates to below one per 100,000 workers by 2028.
MOM’s commitment is part of broader plans to professionalise skilled trades, build a stronger local pipeline for corporate leadership positions, and support vulnerable workers.
