Philippines seeks national IT upskilling programme

The Philippines requires a national talent upskilling program to address the scarcity of qualified workers in the information technology and business process management sector, industry groups have warned.

Jack Madrid, President of the IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines, says an online talent hub should be combined with early-stage interventions for senior high school and higher education institution graduates. He also recommends increasing capacity for specialised degree courses.

Madrid highlights the need for collaboration between the government, academia, and employers in the industry.

Rosario Cajucom-Bradbury, managing director of the Contact Center Association of the Philippines, confirmed the industry has already invested in employee upskilling and reskilling.

The Philippine IT-BPM Industry Roadmap 2028 aims to generate USD 59 billion in revenues and create 1.1 million new jobs by 2028.
