Some specific words and phrases could be banned from Singapore job advertisements in the near future, if the Tripartite Committee on Workplace Fairness gets its way.
The specially formed committee published its recommendations on policies against workplace discrimination on February 13.
This included a plan for the prohibition of “words or phrases in job advertisements that indicate a preference based on any protected characteristic”.
Protected characteristics, according to the committee, are: age, nationality, sex, marital status, pregnancy status, caregiving responsibilities, race, religion, language, disability, and mental health conditions.
The committee also proposed legislation to ensure that job advertisements are more transparent about the need for potential foreign employees to secure appropriate employment passes under the country’s Fair Consideration Framework.
