Self-management, influence, and creative thinking top skills in Singapore workforce

A recent survey by the Institute for Adult Learning (IAL) has revealed that self-management, influence, and creative thinking are the core skills most-demanded by Singapore employers.

The study, which surveyed over 2,000 employed Singapore residents aged 20 to 70, aimed to assess the top three critical core skills under a framework identified by SkillsFuture Singapore.

This framework helps establish a common skills language for individuals, employers, and training providers, supporting career development, business competitiveness, and employability.

IAL grouped occupations into seven work contexts, with frontliners, nurturers, dealmakers, wayfinders, managers, administrators, and analysers requiring different core skills for optimal performance.

Bi Xiaofang, Senior Researcher at IAL, emphasised the importance of core skills in supporting workforce transformation and adaptability amid changing work environments, highlighting the need for a focus on soft skills alongside technical abilities.
