A long-term masterplan for employment generation and recovery is currently up for deliberations in the Philippines Senate. Majority Leader Joel Villanueva, the principal author of the Trabaho Para sa Bayan Act, says the bill aims to promote job-led economic growth, enhance industry collaboration, and provide services for worker development and business incentives.
The masterplan will consist of three-year, six-year, and 10-year development timelines, with an Inter-Agency Council, headed by the National Economic and Development Authority, responsible for its formulation. Co-chairpersons will also represent the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Labor and Employment. The council will focus on various aspects of employment, such as support for micro, small, and medium enterprises, workforce development, labor rights, and youth unemployment.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has personally requested Villanueva to expedite the passage of the measure.
