Shopee to create more than new 2,000 jobs in Malaysia

Sea, a Singapore-based consumer internet company, best known for its popular e-commerce platform Shopee, is planning to expand further in Malaysia. Among its expansion plans is one to directly employ a further 2,000 workers with Shopee.

This was announced by International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz when he visited Sea’s headquarters in Singapore on January 29.

The expansion to Malaysia will also include the establishment of what will be the biggest warehouse in Malaysia: a two-storey, 1.4 million square-foot structure in Bukit Raja, Klang.

Sea also plans to set-up a cloud computing project in a three-storey green facility in Kulai, Johor, set for completion by the first quarter of 2024.

“We are also expecting positive spill over effects for our small-to-medium enterprises, corporates and the surrounding local communities,” Tengku Zafrul said. “This includes local sourcing, vendor development and the strengthening of local industrial ecosystem particularly in the digital space.”
