Singapore raises medical insurance claim limit for migrant workers

Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower (MOM) announced that the annual claim limit for minimum medical insurance provided to migrant workers will be increased starting in July.

Employers of Work Permit holders must currently provide medical insurance with an annual claim limit of $15,000.

This will rise to $60,000 for policies starting on or after July 1, 2023, aiming to reduce employers’ out-of-pocket expenses amid increasing medical costs.

Claim amounts exceeding $15,000 will be split between employers and insurers, with employers covering 25% and insurers 75%.

The new coverage is expected to encompass over 99% of Work Permit and S Pass holders’ inpatient and day surgery bills, offering employers peace of mind.

The change is part of an enhanced medical insurance scheme, as over 1,000 employers annually face bills exceeding the current limit. Further enhancements will be implemented in 2025.
