Singapore to implement new safety measures in the workplace

In a major move towards enhancing workplace safety, Singapore’s Senior Minister of State for Manpower, Zaqy Mohamad, announced the introduction of Safety Accountability, Focus, and Empowerment (SAFE) measures during the National Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Campaign launch 2023.

The minister acknowledged the progress made during the Heightened Safety Period (HSP), which saw workplace fatalities drop to 0.8 per 100,000 workers, but raised concerns about the increase in major injury rates.

As a solution, the minister unveiled the SAFE measures, aimed at fostering collective responsibility and effort among stakeholders. These measures, designed to strengthen safety ownership across sectors, will take effect as the HSP ends on May 31, 2023.

The minister further stressed the importance of collaboration in developing a sustainable WSH culture, calling for continued efforts from all stakeholders.
