Singapore’s public transport workforce to grow 4% by 2025

lta-train-in-singaporeThe Land Transport Authority anticipates a 4% increase in Singapore’s public transport workforce by 2025, up from the current 22,000 workers. This growth projection comes from plans under the sector’s dedicated Industry Transformation Map.

LTA will create 800 new jobs for rail expansion projects, including the Jurong Region Line and Cross Island Line development. Since 2018, the rail sector has increased its workforce by 1,000 new staff.

In collaboration with the National Transport Workers’ Union and public transport operators, LTA also aims to develop a “future-ready” workforce by upskilling rail workers in new and emerging technologies. It says the transformation map will help Singapore’s transport sector address immediate challenges like manpower constraints and decarbonisation.
