Thailand gears up for more business travelers from India

The Tourism Authority of Thailand is expecting business travelers to come from South Asia, following the decision of the Indian government to scrap its Covid test requirement for those returning from Thailand. .

Phuket Tourist Association president Thaneth Tantipriyakij said large tour groups from India will likely increase travels from the meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions industry in particular. This sector was formerly hit with cancelled bookings as travelers looked to avoid the costs from mandatory RT-PCR tests.

Thailand received 2.58 million foreign visitors over the first six weeks of the year, with only 122,000 from India.

The Department of Health and Family Welfare of India also removed the pre-departure Covid-19 test requirement for travelers coming from Singapore, China, Hong Kong, South Korea and Japan due to a decline of Covid-19 cases from those economies in the past month.
