In Q1 2023, an agreement between Indonesia’s Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) and Thales, a leading European cyber security firm, marked a significant stride in Indonesia’s cyber security enhancement.
The Memorandum-of-Understanding (MoU), signed in Jakarta, followed Indonesia’s initial data protection law passed in September 2022, modelled on the EU’s GDPR.
BSSN Chief, Lieutenant General (Ret.) Hinsa Siburian, thanked Thales for their cooperation and expressed hope for joint development of solutions bolstering nationwide cyber sovereignty.
Thales Asia vice president, Nicolas Bouverot, assured Thales’ commitment to accompany Indonesia towards cyber sovereignty.
This agreement aligns with Indonesia’s National Cyber Security Strategy to collaborate with private cyber security firms.
Thales, generating more than €1.5bn (approx. $1.82bn) in sales in 2022, offers an array of cyber security solutions, from risk assessment to protection of critical infrastructure.
It intends to recruit 12,000 people globally in 2023, including over 700 cyber security experts.
