Vietnam job market sees unprecedented shift

Vietnam’s job market is undergoing a significant transformation, with 35% of Vietnamese workers currently seeking a new job and a further 21% planning to start a job hunt in the next six months. This unprecedented trend is being driven by a number of factors, including the rising cost of living, the increasing demand for skilled workers, and the growing popularity of remote work.

This unprecedented trend reveals a dynamic job market marked by increased fluidity and the willingness of individuals to explore new career opportunities. The study found that one in two employees have changed roles since the pandemic started, indicating a fundamental shift in the workforce’s relationship with their jobs.

May Wah Chan, regional director of Michael Page Vietnam, described this shift as an “Invisible Revolution” characterized by a more transactional approach to work. “A total of 95% of all employees in Vietnam are open to considering new opportunities,” Chan said. “Even happy employees will explore new career prospects. Vietnamese employees are now seeking a more comprehensive package.”

The study found that the pace of change is accelerating, with an astonishing nine in 10 Vietnamese who started a new job last year already open to new opportunities. A flexible mindset towards career progression has become the new norm, with the majority viewing job transitions as a regular part of their employment journey.
