Case in Point: How LAZADA remains Stronger Together in times of crisis

When Lazada recognised the severity of the covid-19 pandemic, the company introduced an initiative to better care for employees and frontliners and show gratitude for selflessly persevering in their work as e-commerce peaked during the crisis.

LazadaCARES is effective across all Lazada locations. The initiative not only sponsors vaccinations for company employees, but also for those not affiliated with Lazada such as employees of small businesses, logistics workers and frontliners, and even to the general public.

In Malaysia, the “Lazada Malaysia Vaccination Program” was rolled out as part of the state-wide Selangor Vaccination (SelVAX) initiative. Among those inoculated then were security guards and cleaners—essential workers serving the public. Likewise, vaccination centres were opened across major provinces in Indonesia.

On the Vietnam front, Lazada donated 30,000 testing kits to hospitals as well as nutritional gifts to the medical workforce. Additional discount vouchers were also incorporated into the shopping app to help address financial difficulties of consumers.

In Thailand, participation in LazadaCARES was also opened to shoppers, allowing them to redeem nine (9) “LazCoins” or in-app points to avail a LazadaCARES package, which would then be delivered to a community affected by the covid-19 outbreak. During the third wave of covid-19, the company also donated a total of THB 1.5 million (equivalent to over 55,000 SGD) to Rajavithi Hospital and King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang.

LazadaCARES is a standing testament to how the crisis brought about the best of the e-commerce giant, allowing the company to demonstrate care for its workforce as well as the greater community. The initiative instils a deep sense of volunteerism and social responsibility among employees.

“To say thank you to our hardworking Lazadians, we are sending LazadaCARES packages consisting of essentials such as a fingertip pulse oximeter, antigen rapid test devices, fast masks, instant noodles, nam phrik (a Thai chili sauce) and paracetamol tablets to staff across the country,” said Chief Executive Officer of Lazada Thailand & Vietnam (now Group CEO).
