The vision to rely on 100% renewable power sources may still seem elusive. But Verdant Solar never loses its energy to push on.

The Malaysia Book of Records has recently named it the Most Solar Provider System Home Installations in a Year, with over 649 landed properties and homeowners in 2022 enjoying reduced electric bills by up to 90% through its solar power systems.

It has saved MYR 1.8 million per year of electricity and reduced 38% of carbon dioxide emissions. And still counting.

It has catered and continues to cater to industry leaders, such as Petronas, Daikin, Bandar Utama, Dutch Lady, 99 Speedmart, Mavisco, and other major brands from various fields.

Although the path seems long and winding, the company aims to walk the road of the United Nation’s sustainable development goals (to develop sustainable cities and communities with renewable energy).

Verdiants’ sustained energy at work

Chief of Staff Asia explored what it’s like to work in a solar power solutions provider. In an interview with Ng Kel Mynn, People and Culture Manager of Verdant Solar, the HR leader first gave us a glimpse of what’s ahead of it as an innovation provider now that the world is just emerging out of a pandemic.

“We are confident in our strategy to focus on the B2C (business to customer) market, and we see that in the years to come, we will go beyond selling solar-powered homes. The sky’s the limit. We see us in areas like EV (electric vehicle) Charging, Smart Homes, and AI. Ultimately, we intend to grow Verdant Solar into a lifestyle brand to inspire Malaysians to adopt a sustainable lifestyle,” Ng proudly states.

How the company plans to accomplish this is rooted in Verdiants’ (their employees) sustained energy at work as the country slowly transitions to endemicity. According to Ng, they are generally more conscious throughout the pandemic and motivated to work.

“In Verdant Solar, we provide free test kits, masks, and sanitiser. This practice reduces their fear when they come to the office and helps avoid further contractions. Verdiants feel safe in an office environment which helps them to thrive at work.

“We create a gamification system amongst team members to get their motivations high. When they meet the targets, they receive a VerdantPlus point, which at the end of the day, they can choose from a catalogue of rewards,” she cites.

Aside from these, Ng mentioned that Verdant Solar conducts a quarterly alignment retreat that drives Verdiants towards a three-month company goal.

Currently, Verdant Solar adopts a hybrid work arrangement using technology to monitor work progress. Verdiants come in every Monday for weekly company-wide and department meetings.

“Since MCO (Movement Control Order), we have adopted digitalisation of our work processes. We track performance via a project management tool, which empowers Verdiants to do the things required to meet company goals while having the flexibility to do them wherever they prefer,” Ng points out.

She added that many Verdiants come to the office daily to enjoy team bonding.
